LACMA redux

As an homage and revision to OMA's winning entry of 2001, our proposal for a new LACMA also imagines the disparate campus consolidated into a single and stratified building that challenges the conventional organization of an encyclopedic museum. Rather than celebrate the collection and separation of cultural artifacts, the geologic mixture of different spatial types is intended to foster the mixing and remixing of curatorial exhibitions.

The stratification is composed of 5 terrains based on a mix of spatial typologies and sampled landscapes. The bottom layer is a perimeter/field type that houses admin offices which bound a large storage vault with cores that feed into different regions of the exhibition spaces, allowing for continuous change and mixing of artifacts.
